Contract Negotiations Update as of 10/10/2018
The UCEA negotiations team met again with the Board on Wednesday, October 10th from approximately 1:30 pm to approximately 4:45 pm. In attendance for UCEA were David Pressey, Astrid Amar, Mario Amaya, Rich Diaz, Leo Gosselin, Joan Sherwood, and Ken Such.
The majority of the conversation revolved around health benefits and health benefit contributions. UCEA presented calculations of the current cost of health benefits for the various plans offered by the Board and the state. We discussed ways to reduce costs to both the board and our members while maintaining quality benefits at the level we currently enjoy. As we have at every meeting, we shared stories with the board highlighting the impact that our current level of contributions has on our members. If you have a story you would like us to share with the Board that illustrates how these contributions have affected you and your family, feel free to email it to me. We don’t have to use your name, so if you would like it to be anonymous, let us know.
In addition, we discussed Board proposals involving instructional and non-instructional employee vacations and sick leave. We also continued ongoing discussions about UCEA access to members and data updates, paid and unpaid leaves of absence, the school calendar, as well as some other UCEA proposals.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2018. We will get back to you after that meeting.
Update as of Sept 16th, 2018
On Tuesday, July 31, 2018, the UCEA negotiations committee and our Uniserve representative Ed Stevens met with members of the Union City Board of Education.
UCEA presented a list of proposals to the board to be considered.
Our next scheduled meeting is September 12; at that meeting, the board will present their proposals for consideration.
We will continue to update negotiations progress.
